my parents' refugee and immigrant story

This film project is really special to me, and one I am most proud of.
For my film class, I directed, filmed, and edited a documentary about my parents. I interviewed my mom and dad about their refugee and immigrant story, and how they navigated life as immigrants in a foreign country. Through this film, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of what my parents had to go through in order to give my sister and I a better life.
1. Storytelling
I asked my parents many questions and there was a lot of footage to review. I learned how to determine what parts should be kept and what should be cut, while forming an engaging story for the audience to listen to.
2. Essential filming skills
I learned how to shoot from multiple angles, how to light a scene to match the mood, and that I will often need more b-roll than I think.
